THREE men were killed while three others were wounded in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City and Consolacion town, northern Cebu on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.
At 12 p.m., Junrey Abapo died after an unidentified assailant shot him several times in Sitio Paradise 2, Barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City.
A minor and Allan Cabrera were rushed to a hospital for treatment after they were also shot by the culprit, as he shot a wounded Abapo again after a chase.
P/SMSgt. Gregorio Gerames, desk officer of the Pardo Police Station, said Abapo was walking towards a basketball court when he was approached and shot by the unidentified gunman.
Abapo succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head and hip.
The culprit possibly had a score to settle with Abapo as the latter had worked as an errand boy for the Mambaling Police Station personnel and he reportedly often gave information to the police about pushers, said Pardo police chief P/Maj. Jhon Kareen Escober.
An hour later, Peter Reyes, 45, was shot dead inside his home in Sitio Naba, Barangay Mambaling. Investigators recovered drug paraphernalia in Reyes’ residence.
P/Cpl. Fred Carba of the Mambaling Police Station told SunStar Cebu that they had already identified the possible mastermind behind Reyes’ death.
At 7 p.m. Rogelio Garcia, 53, died while his brother Marcial, 50, was wounded after they were shot by a motorcycle driver along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion, Consolacion.
P/Cpl. Roel Aquino, desk officer of the Consolacion Police Station, said the two brothers were aboard a motorcycle when they figured in a traffic-related spat with the culprit, who later pulled out a gun and shot the victims in the middle of their argument.
The Garcias were rushed to a nearby hospital, but Rogelio died just before he could receive medical attention.
Aquino said the investigators would check the cameras of the establishments near the crime scene to determine the gunman’s identity. (BBT / JKV)
