Cebu City Council probes road contract

A MEMBER of the Cebu City Council expressed concern over the unfinished concreting of Monares Street in Barangay Kalunasan, which affects thousands of residents.

North District Councilor Nestor Archival filed a resolution urging the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to explain why the city government was unable to pay the contractor, Docast Construction, which abandoned the P24-million project.

He wanted to know if the contractor had submitted a billing statement and if the DEPW could force the contractor to finish the project, which is only 40 percent complete.

City Administrator Suzzane Ardosa said this has become a legal matter which is why she summoned lawyers from the City Legal Office aside from representatives from the DEPW to discuss and address the problem.

Meanwhile, the Council ordered the DEPW to give an update on the project, which connects the barangay’s boundary to Barangay Capitol Site all the way to the Boy Scouts of the Philippines-Camp Marina Grounds, not later than Oct. 4, 2022.

The project was started on Jan. 21 and was expected to be completed by June 19. (PJB)
