THE Cebu City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) recorded 206 cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Aug. 24, 2021, in which 33 were minors aged 17 years old and below.
City Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the EOC, said of the 33 minors found positive for coronavirus, nine were symptomatic.
The EOC data showed that positive minors include six-month-old and a nine-month-old babies, four two-year-old kids, one three-year-old kid, two five-year-old, two seven-year-old kids, two eight-year-old, three 11-year-old kids, three 12-year-old, one 13-year-old, one 14-year-old, six 15-year-old, four 16-year-old, and two 17-year-old.
Garganera said the EOC found out that the minors got the disease through close contacts and transmissions in the households.
He said the cases should remind family members who frequently go out to strictly follow the health protocols.
“In other words, you have to protect yourself at all times so as not to infect your household members, especially minors,” said Garganera.
As of Aug. 24, the EOC reported Cebu City had 3,470 active Covid-19 cases, while based on the data of the Department of Health (DOH) 7 data, the city had 4,588 active Covid-19 cases.
There was 1,118 variance between the EOC and DOH 7 data.
Garganera said this difference will be harmonized before the end of the month, adding the figures of the DOH 7 were usually delayed in updating.
Based on the EOC data as of Aug. 24, the city’s total Covid-19 cases hit 36,638 with 31,986 recoveries and 1,182 deaths. (JJL)
