A TOTAL of 10,800 beneficiaries will receive their P5,000 stimulus grant from the Cebu City Government.

Gerard Joe Carillo, team leader of the City’s Economic Stimulus Program, said Tuesday, May 31, 2022, that the grant is provided so the beneficiaries can start or improve their businesses as an effort to boost the city’s economy.

Carillo, son of former councilor and now Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chairman Gerardo “Gerry” Caillo, added that the beneficiaries came from the different sectors of the city at the sitio level.

The sectors chosen as beneficiaries include public transportation, farmers, women’s organizations, sari-sari store owners, and the formal and informal sectors.

Carillo said the beneficiaries need not to pay interest because the grant is a form of cash assistance. The beneficiaries, however, must be able to prove that the businesses they are engaged in are economically feasible.

Since the beneficiaries of the program are spread out to different barangays, Carillo said they will be contacted to be informed about the area of disbursement of the money.

The stimulus program distribution is part of the City’s P277 million worth of financial assistance that was disbursed beginning last May 13.

The city’s distribution of different financial assistance was put to a halt after the election ban on government spending took effect last March 25 until May 8.

These included the cash aid intended for victims of Typhoon Odette (Rai) and recent fire incidents, beneficiaries of Tabang Alang sa Panginabuhian sa atong Trabahante (Tapat) program, and octogenarian beneficiaries.
