Cebu City jail personnel to probe foiled escape try

OFFICIALS of Cebu City Jail will conduct an investigation on the foiled escape try of the two Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from the facility’s male dormitory on Friday at 7 p.m., November 11, 2022, in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

Jail Superintendent Mitz Placencia said they will conduct an investigation and find a solution to the problems that the facility is facing, such as jail congestion and the lack of personnel that will monitor the movement of inmates, to avoid a repeat of the incident.

The two drug inmates, according to Placencia, had caught the attention of custodial personnel after the latter heard footsteps from the roof of Alternative Learning System building.

The jail personnel immediately checked what was going on and found the two PDLs about to climb over the perimeter walls that separate the city jail and the Second Chance Rehabilitation Center.

The jail guards of Cebu City Jail immediately asked help from their counterparts from the rehabilitation center that led to the recapture of the two PDLs.

A jail guard reportedly fired his gun in his attempt to neutralize them, hitting one of the inmates.

After the incident, the jail personnel immediately conducted an inventory to ensure all the PDLs are accounted for. (BBT, TPT)
