CEBU City officials mourned the passing of former Cebu governor Pablo "Pabling" Garcia.

Vice Mayor Michael Rama extended his condolences to the Garcia family on behalf of the Cebu City Government and City Council.

"In behalf of the City Government, the Sangguniang Panlungsod, we would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family of Garcia, of course led by (Governor) Gwendolyn Garcia, for the untimely demise of former governor Pabling Garcia," he said in a press conference Thursday, August 19.

Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia, in his Facebook post, said Pabling and his grandfather Jesus P. Garcia Sr., were the role models and "gold standard" in their family.

"Rest in Eternal Peace, dear Lolo Pabling. Yours was a life to emulate. You made your family proud. You made Cebu proud. You made your country proud," he said.

Councilor Garcia said Pabling's legacy of devoted public service will continue to be lived on through the next generation of the Garcia family.

Pabling was a three-term governor of Cebu. He was also a congressman in Cebu's second and third districts and had also served as a deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.

Councilor Garcia said that aside from Pabling's role in public service, he was also a teacher and a dedicated family man.

Pabling died Wednesday night, August 18. He was 95. (JJL)
