THE Cebu City Secretariat Office has proposed a P100-million budget for the establishment of an archives building.
The amount is included in the proposed 2021 annual budget.
Acting City Secretary Charisse Piramide said the archives building will house all local archives, adding that it is the mandate of the City Council office to take charge of such documents.
Piramide said that if the budget is approved, the City may look into existing structures that can be converted into an archives building.
Piramide said a councilor must push for the establishment of the archives building for the project to get off the ground.
In the previous City Council, Piramide said former councilor Sisinio Andales had proposed an ordinance for this purpose, but it was not approved.
“Somebody has to push for it,” she said.
The Secretariat Office also proposed a budget of P180 million to renovate the legislative building.
Piramide said all offices located in the legislative building are only those related to policy-making.
The City Council has a proposed total budget of P361 million for 2021.
The council, which has converted itself into a committee of the whole, concluded the budget hearing for next year’s proposed annual budget on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020.
Vice Mayor Michael Rama said the proposed 2021 annual budget, as well as the fourth supplemental budget, will be approved before Dec. 23.
The council will have its last regular session of the year on Wednesday, Dec. 23. Rama said the last regular session will be a “marathon stage.”
He said a special session will also be held before then.
