Cebu City to release cash aid to senior citizens on mayor’s birthday

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama wants the financial assistance for senior citizens to be released on his birthday.

Rama will be turning 68 on October 28, 2022.

The mayor made the announcement before hundreds of senior citizens from different barangays during the celebration of Senior Citizens Month on Tuesday, October 4.

The senior citizens will receive P2,000 to cover the months of September and October.

The City Government provides them with a monthly cash aid of P1,000.

Rama also told them the City will release their financial assistance for the months of November and December before Christmas Day.

Vicente "Enting" Esmeña, head of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs, said they are preparing the documents for the release of the assistance to around 89,000 qualified beneficiaries.

Senior citizens last received the cash aid amounting to P3,000 in August to cover the months of June, July and August.

The City Government will conduct site distributions in all 80 barangays for five days to give senior citizens ample time to claim the money.

Employees of the Department of Social Welfare and Services will deliver the cash assistance to the homes of the bedridden elderly.

Last Friday, September 30, Councilor Noel Wenceslao, chairman of the committee on budget and finance, said the City Council will deliberate on the third supplemental budget amounting to P1.3 billion on Wednesday, October 5, to cover the financial assistance for senior citizens from September to December.
