THE Cebu City Government is set to release P181 million worth of financial assistance to senior citizens on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

City Treasurer Mare Vae Reyes said Thursday, May 26, that 90,788 senior citizens are qualified to receive their monthly cash assistance of P1,000 each.

Since the disbursement of the money was delayed due to the election ban, Reyes said the qualified senior citizens will receive P2,000 for the months of April and May.

Reyes added that their office will try to make the distribution every month just like before the pandemic.

Other departments in the City Hall will also augment the personnel of the City Treasurer's Office (CTO) to expedite the release of the financial assistance, said Reyes.

According to Reyes, City Hall workers will be deployed to the 80 barangays on Saturday for the whole-day distribution.

Reyes also urged the senior citizens to follow the minimum health protocols and not arrive at the venue too early so that they will not have to wait long.

"Akong i-suggest ninyo, kanang dili lang kaayo mo sayo kay unlike before pandemic, half day ra ta pero karon, whole day na atong distribution, so naa pa tay panahon nga mo adto didto," said Reyes.

If the senior citizens cannot claim his or her cash assistance during the distribution in the villages, Reyes said they still have 10 days to claim it.

They can claim it at the City Hall, but the CTO said it will look for other venues that are convenient for the senior citizens.

Meanwhile, Reyes said 3,733 bedridden senior citizens in the city are also qualified to receive financial assistance.

Personnel from the Cebu City Hall will visit the residence of these senior citizens to hand over the cash assistance.

Reyes said this is also a way for the government personnel to validate and check the status of the senior citizens, especially if they need other forms of assistance. (IRT)
