Cebu City set to host DILG’s anti-illegal drugs program

CEBU City will host the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) nationwide simultaneous launching of its program against illegal drugs on November 26, 2022.

Mayor Michael Rama renewed his commitment of support to the National Government's campaign against illegal drugs during the courtesy call of DILG Undersecretary Marlo Iringan and Assistant Secretary Francisco Cruz at the former's office on Friday, November 4.

In a report from the Public Information Office, Rama said the City Government will help in the preparation for the DILG's program “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (Take care of one’s life, shun illegal drugs)” or Bida.

Cebu City was chosen as host of the program, which will be participated by other local government units in Western, Central and Eastern Visayas.

Cebu City's DILG officer-in-charge Dr. Neila Aquino said they have already met with the city administrator and heads of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Cebu City Transportation Office and the Substance Abuse and Prevention Office for the necessary preparations for the said event.

The program will be held in Plaza Independencia and around 5,000 participants are expected to join the event.

Activities for the program include a fun run, cycling and zumba. These will be held simultaneously with the other host cities in Luzon and Mindanao.

Aquino said Rama's "close friend," DILG Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., was the one who decided that Cebu City should host the event for the Visayas.

She said the goal of the activity is to promote the drug prevention advocacy to the barangays, government employees and even to those who have already graduated from the government’s community-based drug rehabilitation program. (IRT, PR)
