THE Cebu City government, through its Local School Board (LSB), has allocated P52 million for the printing of modules for Grade 2 and 3 students studying in the city’s public schools.
Raddy Diola, LSB chairman, said at least 30,000 Grade 2 and 3 students will benefit from the allocation.
The allocation could also help the Cebu City Schools Division save money in terms of printing modules for its students, Diola added.
Diola told reporters: “For the first quarter of this year, Grades 2 and 3 will benefit from this. That’s about 26 million pages. So I would presume for the next three quarters, that would be the same numbers, so about 104 million pages that we can print.”
Diola said the printed modules they will provide will last longer and can be used by future Grade 2 and 3 students rather than their acquiring gadgets for online classes.
Diola admitted that there was a point that the LSB was contemplating buying gadgets similar to what the city government of Manila did for its public schools.
But he added that the LSB decided to forgo buying gadgets for the city’s public school students as they have a tendency to break easily.
Diola said they will conduct a proper bidding next week to determine who will print the modules before classes start on Oct. 5.
But aside from their plans to bid out who will print the modules, Diola said they also considered acquiring a Risograph machine as a way to save on printing costs.
As for the modules for Grades 1, 4 and 12, the printing will be shouldered by the Cebu City Schools Division and will be funded through its maintenance and other operating expenses. (PAC / JKV)
