THE Cebu City government is suspending the distribution of the P3,000 cash assistance to registered senior citizens in the city.
Lawyer Floro Casas Jr., Cebu City administrator, said they decided to suspend the distribution of cash assistance after President Rodrigo Duterte, on recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, placed Cebu City back to enhanced community quarantine status due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases from June 16 to June 30.
Jeffrey Ocampo, Office of Senior Citizens Affairs executive director, said they have discontinued distribution for senior citizens who issued authorization letters to their next of kin at the New Cebu Coliseum.
Aside from the distribution of cash aid at the New Cebu Coliseum, also suspended is the house-to-house distribution of cash aid to senior citizens while Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella is planning to appeal before the IATF to downgrade the city’s quarantine status.
Ocampo said as of Tuesday, June 16, 2020, only 3,000 to 4,000 out of 82,000 registered senior citizens have not yet received the city’s cash assistance. (PAC, JKV)
