Cebu City tricycle drivers may collect P15 fare but must only carry 3 passengers

TRICYCLE drivers and operators in Cebu City will be allowed to collect a fare of P15 per passenger for at least two months due to high fuel prices and limited passengers.

Councilor James Cuenco, chairman of the committee on transportation, met with the different tricycle drivers and operators in the city on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, to discuss the fare rates and other concerns of the sector.

Cuenco said they have agreed to retain the P15 fare from the initial P10 fare before the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

But tricycle drivers are only allowed to carry a maximum of three passengers if they are going to collect P15, he added.

Cuenco said a sticker will be installed by the City Government to show that the unit is allowed to collect P15 but can only carry three passengers.

"We are cognizant of the fact nga dili sayon ang ilang sitwasyon because there are many passengers nga conscious pud sa health protocols, maong dili gyud nila mapuno ang ilang tricycles," said Cuenco.

The councilor added that they will give a two-month grace period to the drivers and operators to observe if the fuel prices will subside.

Another factor that the drivers are considering is the volume of passengers considering that not all students have returned to school for their face-to-face classes.

Cuenco said that if all the factors will be favorable after the two-month period, the drivers are willing to adjust the fare back to P10. (IRT)
