Cebu Fifth District Representative Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco has given away a total of P100,000 worth of free gasoline to motorcycle and tricycle drivers in Mandaue City.

“Cong. Duke Frasco, from his personal funds, is giving away a full tank of gas or up to 500 pesos worth per motorcycle with drivers here at the Shell Station, Barangay Basak, Mandaue City,” a post from his official Facebook page on Thursday (June 23) said.

The congressman also earlier provided free gasoline to locals of Liloan, Compostela – bailiwick of his wife and incoming Tourism secretary Christina Frasco – and in Danao City to help motorcycle and tricycle drivers cope with the increase in fuel prices.

As of Friday, the prices of diesel and unleaded gasoline in Cebu had exceeded P90 per liter.

Diesel prices are once again expected to go up starting Tuesday (June 28) by P1.20 to P1.40 per liter while gas could have a P0.10 to P0.20 per liter rollback.

This has placed drivers and owners of public utility vehicles (PUVs) in a difficult position, with some choosing not to travel their routes.

“It is confirmed that there is [an] indication of slight price increases next week, particularly on diesel and kerosene,” Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said Friday.

Prices of fuel in the market worldwide continued to increase due to several factors, including the weakening of the peso against the US dollar.

According to Cuse, although the prevailing international fuel price indicates a decreasing trend, the decreases are still in US dollar per barrel, which, when converted to Philippine peso, “ultimately caused slight increases in prices due to the sudden weakening of peso.”
