CEBU Governor Gwendolyn Garcia will attend the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in Manila on Thursday, June 30, 2022.

“Yes I will be attending. I would also wish to return the favor that they extended to us...,” said Garcia during the mass oath taking of elected officials under the One Cebu party on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Marcos attended Tuesday’s mass oath taking of One Cebu officials held at the Marco Polo Hotel in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. Incoming Vice President Sara Duterte was also at the event.

Garcia said she was grateful for the presence of the two highest elected officials of the land in Tuesday’s event.

She added that her daughter, Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco, may also take her oath as the new secretary of the Department of Tourism (DOT) on Thursday, June 30.

“I believe that that would also be the oath taking day for my daughter Christina, so I would like to be present also for both historic events for the Philippines and for Cebu,” Garcia said.

Marcos’ UniTeam and Garcia’s One Cebu parties have united in last May 9 elections. The One Cebu had secured 1.5 million votes for Marcos and 1.7 million votes for Duterte.

“Let me take this opportunity to thank the Cebuanos who rallied to our call that we support the UniTeam because the UniTeam espoused what One Cebu believes in unity, and that was what President-elect Marcos and Vice President-elect Duterte believes in the only way we can move forward is when we get together sama-sama tayong babangon muli,” said Garcia.

Marcos will be the fourth president of the Philippines to be taking oath at the National Museum of the Philippines.

The former Presidents who also took their oath the National Museum were Manuel Quezon (1935), Jose P. Laurel (1943) and Manuel Roxas (1946). (ANV/LMY)
