STUDENTS of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu are hopeful that people, particularly the youth, will be enlightened about the "real facts" of Martial Law amid the so-called worsening historical distortion.

Mavi Avila, one of the head organizers of a series of activities to commemorate Martial Law's 50th anniversary, told SunStar Cebu during the launching of the activities on Monday, September 19, 2022, that the university has been running the event for five years since 2017.

Activities like "Parlor Fest: Fact-checking Edition Launching" and "Fact-checking Workshop" marked the opening day.

Avila said all activities are held inside the university and are open to the public.

He said this year's activities are unique as there are interactive, where the audience gets to interact through live.

Avila said the theme for this year's event is "Fool's Gold: Debunking the Myth of the Golden Age."

Avila said they organized the activities to debunk misinformation fueled by the propaganda of the Marcoses.

He said they hope that people, particularly the participants, will make informed decisions and will be more involved in the social-political climate in the country.

The series of activities will run until September 25.
