THE Cebu-Casino Ethyl Alcohol is not giving up on its playoff dreams without a heck of a fight. This after it took down the Parañaque-Yabo Sports in the 2019-20 Chooks-to-Go/MPBL Lakan Season at the Bataan People’s Center on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020.
The win pushed Cebu’s win-loss record to 15-14 with just one more game to play. However, its chances of making the playoffs remain tricky as it needs to win its last game against the formidable Batangas squad and then, hope for General Santos to lose its last two assignments.
On Wednesday night, Cebu scrapped to get the win after the troika of Dale Begaso, Rommel Mangalino and Rene Boy Banzali conspired in a 7-0 blast to cut their lead to two points, 72-70, with 5:07 still on the clock. But that’s the closest the Patriots could get, as AJ Coronel sparked a 7-0 fight back for Cebu to end the game.
Playing without several standouts--Kraniel Villoria, Rhaffy Octobre, and Zachy Huang--former University of San Jose-Recoletos guard Victor Nuñez was the latest to step up from the Sharks’ roster.
Nuñez dropped 20 points on an 8-of-17 shooting clip, while also collecting 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
“Sobrang halaga kasi may game pa yung GenSan e. So sana, sana matalo yung GenSan twice,” said Cebu head coach Noy Falcasantos
Jayboy Solis and Dale Begaso both had 12 points apiece for Parañaque with the former grabbing seven rebounds while the latter had six.
The Patriots dropped to an 8-21 win-loss slate in the South Division. (JNP)
