THE Cebu Quincentennial Hotel (CQH) of Duros Hotels Inc. will open its doors to travelers from Cebu and other areas in the Philippines and the world Monday, June 20.

The hotel, located at 23 Minore Park, Cardinal Rosales Ave., cor. Pope John Paul II Ave., Cebu City, is the first hotel venture in Cebu Province of Duros Hotels Inc., the hotel/hospitality arm and the newest addition to Duros Group, a homegrown Cebuano business conglomerate.

Its opening is also Duros Group’s offering to commemorate the 500th year celebration of the introduction of Christianity in the country held from April 4, 2021 up to the end of 2022.

Under the stewardship of spouses Rafaelito and Fe Barino, in collaboration with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu, the CQH is the first ever hotel with a faith-centered theme as a monument of faith.

The CQH also serves as a repository of memorabilia from the once-in-a-lifetime celebration of 500 Years of Christianity (500 YOC) in Cebu, which is considered the “Cradle of Christianity in Asia.”

Msgr. Agustin V. Ancajas provided the concept and the hotel’s interior design, which features various faith elements that speak of the journey of faith — from the First Baptism in Cebu to Magellan’s gift of the Santo Niño image to Queen Juana, its subsequent loss and recovery to the spread of Christianity throughout the Philippine archipelago.

The hotel also features significant events that transpired during the 500 YOC celebration.

CQH has 42 rooms with three room categories, namely, Deluxe Queen, Deluxe Twin and Deluxe Queen Corner Room.

All rooms have elements of the 500 YOC celebration, including a Jubilee Cross; photographs of the different events and jubilee celebrations taken by Fr. Bonnin Olivar, a Cebuano edition of the Holy Bible entitled “Bag-ong Kasabotan, San Pedro Calungsod Edisyon Bible,” a product of research by Roman Catholic Bible scholars for 25 years; and hand-painted excerpts of a poem written by renowned Cebuano poet, Simeon P. Dumdum Jr.

Rows of photographs adorn the hallways featuring among others Cebu’s oldest churches and the various charitable work conducted by the Catholic Church in Cebu and the Duros Group.

The main lobby features the works of Cebuano artist Henry Montebon that include paintings of circumnavigation maps, a tableau of the First Baptism, and a galleon-inspired “Cafe de Fe.”

“Restaurante Trinidad,” the hotel’s main dining outlet, as well as its function rooms (a conference hall and board rooms), will open in the third quarter of 2022. Family rooms will also be available by the end of the year.

With his vast experience in the hotel and hospitality industry under his belt, Adrian Gallares, head of Hotels for Duros Hotels Inc., aims to get a three-star hotel rating for CQH once it becomes fully operational.

The soft opening of CQH Monday, June 20, will begin with a 10 a.m. Holy Mass to be officiated by Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma.

Duros Hotels Inc. will also launch The Padgett Suites on Molave St., Cebu City by the third quarter of 2022 and One Tectona Hotel, a 100-room hotel located in Yati, Liloan, Cebu, by the fourth quarter of the year.
