A GROUP of skateboarders from Mandaue City, Cebu won first place in the first-ever Do-It-Yourself Virtual Skateboarding national competition sponsored by Red Bull.
Last Tuesday, Oct. 6, two representatives of the winning group Regfy Skate met with Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes for their courtesy call.
In an interview with SunStar Cebu, college student Tracy Lansang, 21, said that the competition required them to make and design a skateboarding obstacle, and with that obstacle, they also had to accomplish skateboarding tricks. Red Bull provided the group with P8,000 to make the obstacle.
Jhonasio Ehem, 30, who works as an IT staff, said that Regfy Skate was grateful to the mayor for allowing them to use the Pajara playground located under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge to set up their designed skateboard obstacle and used the area as their practice ground.
Ehem added that the pandemic did not stop them from joining the competition and showcasing their talents. During their practices and the making of the obstacle, they still observed the health protocols put in place by the government.
Both Lansang and Ehem have been skateboarding since high school and have been joining local competitions. This was the first time that they
competed for a national competition.
Regfy Skate brought home P50,000 for winning the top prize. (KFD)
