Cebu faces Quezon, guns for no. 8 spot

THE Cebu-Casino Ethyl Alcohol will try to keep the momentum of their morale-boosting win against General Santos going when they battle the Quezon City Capitals in the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Season at the Cuneta Astrodome on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020.

Cebu bolstered its chances of making it to the playoffs after it downed the fancied General Santos Warriors, 72-66, in their home game at the Aznar Coliseum on Dec. 21, 2019.

That win improved Cebu’s win-loss record to 10-12 as it sits in 10th place in the South Division, trailing the red-hot Biñan City and Bicol for the eighth spot and the final ticket to the playoffs.

Joel Christian Lee Yu, one of Cebu’s stalwarts on defense, said the team is preparing hard to once again dig down deep on the defensive end of the floor.

“The team is still focusing on defense. We need to stop their go-to guys—their guards and their shooting bigs,” said the former University of San Carlos Baby Warrior.

Yu also said they will be trying to bring the intensity that they put on display in their last game to their upcoming match-up.

“We want to stay focused on our goal to reach the playoffs and to bring our A game like how we play during home games.” (JNP)
