VETERAN Cebuano guard Brian Heruela is back with the TNT Tropang Giga after he signed a one-year contract with the team on Friday afternoon, March 12.
Already an unrestricted free agent after he was left unsigned by the Alaska Aces following his trade there from Phoenix Super LPG, the 31-year old linked up with the team that he helped to a runner-up finish in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
“I got unfinished business here,” said Heruela, a proud product of the University of Cebu. “It would be a great feeling to bring a championship to this organization.”
Heruela admitted he still thinks of the 2019 Governors’ Cup finals, in particular, the final moments of Game Two. Sent to the free-throw line with 21 seconds left in the first overtime and TNT up by two, Heruela missed both freebies. Those missed proved costly as San Miguel tied the game at 114-all on a last-ditch layup by Alex Cabagnot. The Beermen went on to win, 127-125, in the second overtime.
“This is a great team and hopefully, I’m gonna be able to help them get over the hump,” shared Heruela. “I’m very excited to rejoin the team. I have a mission especially since the last time I was here, we lost in the finals.”
Heruela will be of huge help to TNT’s backcourt, especially with wingman Bobby Ray Parks sitting out this season. He’ll be joining a backcourt manned by star guard Jayson Castro, veterans Ryan Reyes and Almond Vosotros and youngster, Kib Montalbo.
“This is a great company, a great organization that has a great coaching staff and it’s such a blessing to play for TNT,” added Heruela. (JNP)
