Promising Cebuano forward Zach Huang is now focusing on training for 3x3 basketball after he was selected to be part of the Chooks-to-Go 3x3 national team training pool.
This development reunites the energetic, left-handed forward with his former head coach at the University of Santo Tomas, Aldin Ayo, who is now calling the shots for the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 team.
Huang, a former standout of the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu, admitted that after training with Ayo and his teammates, namely Cebuanos Macmac Tallo and Jom Sollano as well as Jboy Gob, Dennis Santos and Jhonard Clarito, he is still adjusting to the faster pace of 3x3 basketball.
“I’m still adjusting. 3x3 has a much faster pace compared to 5 on 5 basketball,” said Huang.
Hard work, though, is nothing new to Huang, who shared his philosophy during an appearance on The BEST Center's Bida BEST Live backed by Milo last Saturday.
“There are no secrets to basketball and also shortcuts, so just keep working. Success is always under construction,” shared Huang. “Yung mga na-achieve mo, ma-enjoy mo on the day, but on the next day trabaho ulit.”
Unbeknownst to many, Huang got his start in the sport at The BEST Center Clinic of the late coaching great, Nic Jorge. He shared that he didn’t have much to do one summer and so, he decided to join. Although it was difficult, Huang shared that he enjoyed it and said, “Ayun, natuloy-tuloy siya.”
He then went on to compete in The BEST Center’s SBP and Passerelle tournaments, before eventually joining UST in 2015. After a stellar collegiate career, Huang then went on to play for the Cebu-Casino Ethyl Alcohol in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. (JNP)
