The San Miguel Beermen’s Cebuano behemoth June Mar Fajardo is inching his way towards an eventual return in the 46th season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
The 6-foot-10 giant has been participating in the Beermen’s practices that are being held at the Batangas City Coliseum. This is part of the big man’s long and arduous road back to the San Miguel’s roster after fracturing his tibia during practice back in February of last year.
“Slowly but surely! Thank you Lord for everything!” said Fajardo on his social media post.
The injury put the native of Pinamungajan on the sidelines during the Beermen’s stint inside the PBA bubble late last year. As excited as his teammates, coaches and officials are about his impending return, team manager Gee Abanilla is tempering expectations, saying they aren’t going to rush Fajardo back onto the floor until he is 100% healthy.
"June Mar is getting better and stronger by the day. Yet we are still taking it one day at a time. He is still closely monitored by our PT but he looks fine," Abanilla said on the league’s official website, www.pba.ph.
While this is Fajardo’s first time back on the floor in a long while, he has actually been participating in the team’s online workouts earlier this month. This bodes well for San Miguel’s upcoming campaign as the Cebuano giant is expected to team up with Mo Tautuaa to form an imposing frontline. (JNP)
