Fajardo wins 6th straight MVP

CEBUANO June Mar Fajardo continued to make his argument as the greatest Filipino basketball player of all time as he captured his sixth straight Most Valuable Player award during the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Leo Awards on Sunday, March 8, 2020.

The pride of Pinamungahan, Cebu is currently recuperating from a fractured shin that will keep him on the sidelines for the season-opening Philippine Cup. He did, however, wheel his way onto the court onboard a motorized scooter to receive the award.

“Sana hindi kayo magsawa sa akin dito, sana next year ulit,” he said during his acceptance speech where he was joined on the floor by his doting parents, Bonifacio and Marites.

“Malungkot na na-injured ako ngayon pero still, thankful pa rin ako kay God sa nangyari. May plano si God para sa akin, kailangan maging positive lagi,” said the humble Cebuano superstar, who amassed a total of 3,140 points coming from statistical points, media votes, players’ votes and PBA votes to win the MVP plum.

Fajardo also took a spot on the Mythical First team where he was joined by TNT’s Jayson Castro, Columbian Dyip’s rookie CJ Perez, and NorthPort’s big man Christian Standhardinger and forward Sean Anthony in the Mythical First Team.

TNT’s Cebuano ace RR Pogoy and Troy Rosario, Ginebra’s Stanley Pringle and Japeth Aguilar, and Magnolia’s Ian Sangalang were named to the Mythical Second Team.

The MVP also led the All-Defensive Team with Anthony, Aguilar, SMB teammate Chris Ross and Perez completing the cast.

Fajardo also took the time to thank his parents who continue to be his inspiration for doing well, both on and off the hardcourt. (JNP)
