Cebuano Leonard Santillan picked fifth in 2021 PBA Draft

Athletic forward Leonard Santillan was picked fifth overall in the 2021 PBA Draft by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

A native of Lapu-Lapu City, Santillan’s selection was announced by RoS’ new head coach Chris Gavina. The 6-foot-5 forward previously played high school and college basketball at the University of the Visayas before moving on to play for De La Salle University.

After college, Santillan played for Marinerong Pilipino in the D-League as well as Bataan and Zamboanga in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. He also made a name for himself in the Chooks-to-Go 3x3 circuit and was the country’s fifth-best 3x3 player.

Joshua Munzon was picked first overall by TerraFirma followed by Jamie Malonzo who was selected second by NorthPort. NLEX picked Calvin Oftana with the third nabbed while Mikey Williams was picked by TNT with the fourth pick.

The Alaska Aces tapped big man Bed Adamos with the sixth pick followed by Larry Muyang who was selected by Phoenix with the seventh pick. Former La Salle big man James Laput was nabbed by TerraFirma with the eighth pick and was followed by super scorer Alvin Pasaol who was picked by Meralco with the ninth pick. Rounding out the top 10 was Jerrick Ahanmisi who Magnolia got with the 10th pick. (JNP)
