Cebuano Paul Desiderio leaves PBA 'bubble'

The Blackwater Elite’s sophomore Cebuano guard Paul Desiderio has left the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) “bubble” to tend to a nagging injury and a personal matter.

Team management announced the development as they returned to action on Tuesday, November 3, after a lengthy break due to a positive Covid-19 test result by one of their players. The league later confirmed that the test result was a “false positive.”

Desiderio’s absence leaves Blackwater head coach Nash Racela with a 14-man roster in the closing stages of the Philippine Cup’s elimination round. The Elite have lost three straight and sits in the bottom half of the standings with a 2-4 (win-loss) record.

Desiderio, who hails from Liloan, is no longer expected to return. His absence leaves Blackwater’s guard rotation thin especially during this crucial stretch where the team plays its remaining games in a compressed schedule. They lost to San Miguel in overtime, 88-90, on Tuesday, and as of this writing, was battling the Meralco Bolts. (JNP)
