Cebuano Leonard “Santi” Santillan is glad to be working with a man who helped him get to where he is today — Aldin Ayo.
Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 recently announced that the controversial head coach would lead its team in FIBA tournaments, reuniting him with the 6-foot-5 pride of Lapu-Lapu City who played for him during his time with the De La Salle University Green Archers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
“With Santi, we already know what he can do, so I’m happy that we’re working together again,” said Ayo.
Santillan is set to play for Manila Chooks TM alongside the country’s top 3x3 player Joshua Munzon as well as Alvin Pasaol and Troy Rike in the FIBA 3x3 Doha Masters later this month. The team’s participation in this tournament is part of their buildup for the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
“Of course, I’m excited to have him as my coach once again. I am familiar with how he coaches and he knows how I play,” said Santillan, a product of the University of the Visayas Green Lancers.
Santillan added that he believes it will not take long for Ayo to transition to 3x3 basketball.
“His track record speaks for itself. He has brought every team he’s handled to the Finals, right?” added Santillan. “I know coach Aldin too well. He will adjust quickly even if it’s 3x3.” (JNP)
