Cebuano teen shines in Europe

KARTING phenom William John Riley Go turned his dream to reality and itched his name in the country’s history book after grabbing the championship in the Super ROK category of the South Garda Karting ROK Super Finals in Lonato, Italy.

“Crossing the finish line as a champion for the ROK SuperFinal was indeed a momentous and fulfilling experience since I have always dreamt of achieving this since I was only a young boy and to make it a reality is indeed a blessing,” said Go.

Go, 14, of Zanchi Motorsport completed the 20-lap race last weekend in 16 minutes and 12.687 seconds, outlasting Andorran Alexandre Machado of GP Racing by five seconds and was almost 10 seconds ahead of third placer Italy’s Daniele Federici.

With the impressive showing, Go became the first Filipino karter to win a championship in Europe. Go stood tall on the Super ROK podium as he finally made his dream to reality.

“Ever since I was racing locally in the Philippines, being able to compete in Europe, the home of the best of the best in karting was always on the bucket list. When I was finally given the opportunity to do so, I knew becoming victorious in the continent was extremely challenging due to the amount of talent and experience in the grid. Nevertheless, I decided to keep dreaming for that champion win since there was no harm in doing so anyways,” Go said.

Prior to the championship, it can be recalled that Go placed third in the WSK Euro Series at the Circuito South Garda Karting in Lonato, Italy last July 18, 2022.

Go’s coach Davide Forè lauded his ward for a fantastic year.

“Proud of you, from Philippine[s] to come here in Europe at this level is really complicated for many reasons, just in 10 months you do a fantastic job,” he wrote on Instagram.
