YOUNG Cebuano basketball standouts Jared Bahay and Kristian Porter earned spots in the Gilas Pilipinas Youth team that will represent the country in the FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship in Qatar on June 12 to 19.

Bahay, a 5-foot-8 guard who hails from Mambaling, was named team captain of the squad. He will be playing with a familiar face in Kristian Porter—the younger brother of NLEX big man Kris Porter—who he was teammates before at Ateneo de Cebu.

Also on the team is high-flying Filipino-American guard Caelum Harris, who will try to give the Gilas Youth the push it needs to hopefully improve on their fourth-place finish during the 2017 edition of this tournament.

Helping to man the backcourt are guards Jacob Bayla, Andrei Gemao, Santi Romero, and Renzo Competente.

The rest of the team members are Lebron Nieto, the younger brother of current PBA pros Mike and Matt Nieto, Jayden Jones, Basti Reyes, Fil-Canadian Zain Mahmoud, and Fil-Am Alex Konov.

The team’s reserves are Joseph Pangilinan, Elijah Yusi, and Francis Veejay Pre as reserves.

The team have tough tasks in front of them as they have been placed in Group C, and will compete against Japan and Kuwait. The top team after the group stage will earn a quarterfinals bye while the last two squads will try to advance to the playoffs.
