Celebration: Republic of Austria National Day

The Republic of Austria celebrates its National Day today which commemorates the establishment of the Austrian State in 1955. The Austrian National Flag is displayed throughout the country. Fitness marches (Fit-Marsche) draw thousands of people to hike in the various parts of the country. On this day, Parliament building and national museums are open and entrance is free.

Austria has a high standard of living with a very high human development index. The country is a member of various international organizations such as the United Nations, the European Union, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Filipino-Austrian relations have always been based on mutual benefit and respect. There are about 35,000 Filipinos in Austria who are engaged largely in the health and service sectors.

The Philippine government established its Embassy in Vienna, Austria, in 1973 while the Austrian Embassy in the Philippines was established in 1981. However, as early as 1871, Austria was already represented in the Philippines through an honorary consulate.

We congratulate the government and people of the Republic of Austria led by Their Excellencies, Federal President Heinz Fischer, Federal Chancellor Werner Faymann, National Council President Barbara Prammer, and Federal Minister for European and Internation Affairs Michael Spindellegger, and its Embassy in the Republic of the Philippines headed by H.E., Ambassador Wilhelm Maximillian Donko, on the occasion of its National Day. CONGRATULATIONS AND MABUHAY!
