After almost three years of sitting on the shelves due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Cebu’s most prestigious inter-school league—the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI)—makes its long-awaited return on April 22, Friday, at the Cebu Coliseum.

There will be 13 events this season, led by basketball, which opens on at the Cebu Coliseum. However, according to Tiukinhoy, there will only be a three-point shootout rather than the regular games as the different schools have yet to properly prepare.

“It’s just mini events. We have modified the events that we have. We’d like to show that we are here and that we are here to conduct the Cesafi for the next years to come,” said Tiukinhoy.

The opening ceremonies on Friday will be highlighted by the Miss Cesafi pageant.

“We have also requested schools to bring in athletes and students for the parade,” added Tiukinhoy.

The sports events that will be conducted this season are athletics, badminton, beach volleyball, chess, dance sports, football, karatedo, scrabble, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and the latest addition—e-sports.

Tiukinhoy also said that they are looking forward to staging the next season in September. He added that he is hoping to have the regular games by then.

“By then, most of the schools may have their face-to-face classes already,” said Tiukinhoy, who said that they will remain vigilant despite the looser regulations.

“When we have that season, we still have to comply with whatever regulations we have.” (JNP)
