CEBUANA beauty queen Katherine Jumapao and the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.’s (CESAFI) first-ever Most Valuable Player for the women’s division, Clarissa Lanuza, were named to the final list of players who are qualified to join the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) Draft Combine.
From a whopping 702 initial applicants, the list was trimmed down to just 177. The players who made the cut were revealed on the league’s official Facebook page on Tuesday night, October 13, 2020.
The Draft Combine is tentatively set on October 20-22 with the WNBL Draft slated on October 30. The WNBL, which is the country’s first-ever professional league for women, is set to open its 2021 season in January.
Jumapao said she is excited and nervous, all at the same time.
“I feel excited and scared at the same time. The country’s best are all joining this league,” said Jumapao, who was crowned Miss AAA Renaissance Cebuana 2018 and also joined the Miss Cebu pageant back in 2015.
Being a relative unknown on the national scene, Jumapao says she is keen on making her mark in the Draft Combine.
“This is the first of its kind, that’s why the country’s best are preparing for this. I’m a little nervous,” Jumapao shared.
She added that she is preparing very hard for the upcoming Draft Combine, practicing as much as four times a week.
“I practice 3-4x a week. Shooting, dibbling, cone drills, etc. I’ve been eating clean and I am currently in my playing weight,” beamed Jumapao. (JNP)
