Our lips are often overlooked when it comes to our skincare routines.

Most of the time, they’re welcomingly low-maintenance until it comes to a crisp or windy day when everything quickly unravels.

You might notice that the skin around our eyes and on our lips are the first to dry out in the winter. A mixture of dry heat from our radiators and the fresh sting of plummeting temperatures outside is hardly a nourishing combination.

Enter our lip balm saviours.

Much like the stages in our skincare routines, lip balms offer a range of different benefits depending on what our lips need.

Unlike our other skincare steps, however, when it comes to our lips we’re a lot less likely to experiment.

Many of the top rated products might be described as “oldies but goodies” with a couple of newer releases - take Glossier’s Balmdotcom - which have quickly gathered a cult following.

These top rated lip balms are refreshingly uncomplicated. They soothe, moisturise and condition all in one. They won’t require you to have a three-step lip care routine and they last for a really long time.

You won’t be surprised to learn that Carmex’s original lip pot is still going strong. Many of us will remember this as our very first foray into beauty; an errant Carmex floating in the bottom of our school bags.

Another classic is the Burt’s Bees lip balm tube. We’ve selected the pomegranate infused option, but it comes in a range of flavours to suit your taste. It tastes so good you could eat it, but really, don’t do that.
