Mad Max: Fury Road actress Charlize Theron has posted a video of herself shaving her hair off prior to playing Imperator Furiosa.

In director George Miller's 2015 apocalyptic blockbuster, Theron's skin-headed character teams up with Tom Hardy's Max Rockatansky to escape the tyrannous grip of Immortan Joe and his War Boys.

To look the part of a battle-hardened heroine, the Atomic Blonde star had to ditch her long locks.

Over on Instagram yesterday (July 31), the Oscar winner shared the throwback homemade clip as well as a shot of the finished product.

"In honor of our @ctaop drive-in screening of Mad Max tonight, throwing it back to the point of no return with creating Furiosa," her caption read.

"A huge thank you to @thegrovela and @CHCre8tive for making tonight happen! So excited to see this movie on the big screen again."

Meanwhile, as Miller looks to recast Furiosa for his in-development Mad Max prequel, Theron recently addressed the decision with some disappointment.

"It's a tough one to swallow," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "Listen, I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making Fury Road with him. He's a master, and I wish him nothing but the best.

"Yeah, it's a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I'm so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly."
