Chery Tiggo invited to play in the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship

The recently crowned Premier Volleyball League Open Conference champions Chery Tiggo Crossovers has been invited to compete in the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship on October 1 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The club will be bannering the Philippines alongside a Rebisco-backed team composed of the Philippine women’s national volleyball team pool.

“For the Asian Club Championship to be held in Nakhon Ratchasima from October 1 to 7, the teams invited are the national team and the champion of the PVL which is Chery Tiggo,” shared PVL commissioner Tonyboy Liao.

However, it remains uncertain whether Chery Tiggo would participate in the said tournament since their star, Jaja Santiago, will be flying to Japan this September to resume her duties as the import of the Japanese club, Aego Medics.

Liao said the deadline for confirmation is on September and should Chery Tiggo decline, the invitation would be forwarded to the PVL runners-up, Creamline Cool Smashers.

“Until now Chery Tiggo hasn’t confirmed their participation. If they won’t be available, then Creamline will be invited, then Petro Gazz and then the next ranked team,” said Liao.

“If Chery Tiggo would like to participate, they should inform PNVFI right away before the end of August because the deadline of submission of entries to Thailand Volleyball is on September 10,” Liao added.

Should the Crossovers give the green light to compete in the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, this marks the second time that they would be doing so. Bannering the name of Foton, the club competed in the 2016 edition of the tournament and finished in seventh place in the 12-team competition that was held in the Philipppines. (JNP)
