INSTEAD of bringing a 16-year-old girl to a hospital after being mauled by her live-in partner, the chief tanod of a Mandaue barangay landed in jail for bringing the girl to a lodging house.

The suspect, identified as Diosdado Gesta, 56, chief tanod of Barangay Labogon, was arrested by operatives of Mandaue City Police Station 1 inside the barangay hall during a hot pursuit operation around 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2022, based on the complaint of Annie (not her real name).

Lieutenant Jessie Tañola, deputy commander of Mandaue Police Station 1, said Annie reported to their station that she went to the barangay hall to lodge a complaint against her live-in partner for allegedly maltreating her on Monday afternoon, July 18.

Annie narrated that the chief tanod and two other tanods who entertained her later accompanied her to the house of her parents to ask their consent to bring her to the hospital for treatment since she was a minor.

When they returned to the barangay hall, Annie said the chief tanod asked his fellow tanods to leave him alone in bringing the victim to the hospital.

But to her surprise, the suspect brought her to a lodging house, locked her inside the room and succeeded in raping her, Annie recounted.

The chief tanod reportedly gave her P300 in exchange for the sexual pleasure, and told her that they would meet again. (BBT, TPT)
