THE chief tanod of Barangay Labogon, Mandaue City was arrested after he allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl who was seeking the barangay’s help after she was maltreated by her live-in partner.

The suspect, Diosdado Gesta, was caught by the Centro Police Station operatives at the barangay hall in a warrantless arrest operation around 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2022.

Gesta’s arrest was based on the complaint filed against him by Annie (not her real name).

Lt. Jessie Tañola, deputy commander of the Centro Police Station, said Annie told them that she went to the barangay hall to lodge a complaint against her 30-year-old live-in partner for allegedly maltreating her on Monday afternoon, July 18.

Annie recalled that Gesta and two of his fellow tanods assisted her and even accompanied her to her parents’ house to ask for their consent to bring her to a nearby hospital for treatment since she was still a minor.

When they returned to the barangay hall, Annie said Gesta told his fellow tanods that he will bring her to the hospital for the checkup.

But to Annie’s surprise, Gesta brought her to a lodging house, he locked the room and succeeded in raping her.

Gesta reportedly gave Annie P300 just to have sex with her and told her that they would meet again.

After what happened, Annie immediately went to the Centro Police Station and reported her predicament in Gesta’s hands. (BBT / TPT)
