China-Made Mini-Buses For Cebu’s LGUs

CEBU - The Cebu provincial government will import 26 Sinotruk mini buses from China for distribution to performing local government units (LGUs) under Capitol's clean and green program.

The mini buses, worth P2.6 million each, will be imported to the Philippines through Conequip Phils. Inc., the local distributor of said mini buses.

Twenty of the buses will be distributed to 20 top performing LGUs in the Expanded-Green and Wholesome Environment that Nurtures (E-GWEN) Our Cebu program in August. The buses are given not only as a reward to the top LGU performers but also to spur tourism in the countryside.

Capitol will retain six of said mini buses, which are all due to arrive next month in time for the awarding of winners in the province-wide E-GWEN beautification program, said Atty. Rose Arnado, Attorney VI of the Provincial Legal Office.

Arnado is part of a three-member team tasked by Garcia to conduct last June 11-14 an ocular inspection of tourist buses and plant sites belonging to the Sinotruk Group (China National Heavy Truck Group), the manufacturer of the mini buses, in Jinan City, Shandong province.

Arnado was accompanied by Engineer Lee Charles Recla of the Provincial Engineer's Office and Mr. Seth Oliver Tio of Conequip.

This will be the first time that these Sinotruk buses will appear in the streets of Cebu and the Capitol wants to ensure that the buses from Sinotruk are already tested and proven.

Arnado and Recla, in their report regarding the ocular inspection of the Sinotruk plant, said the latter ''produces all the axle and transmission requirements of Sinotruk assembled in Jinan, for light and heavy duty trucks.''
