SINGAPORE — The movie Precious Is The Night starring Chuando Tan will be released exclusively at Cathay Cineplexes theatres on 29 April.
In his first ever movie role, Tan was chosen to play the lead character in the Mandarin-language murder thriller despite having no prior acting experience; and not just one, but two characters.
The 55-year-old Singaporean model-photographer-influencer became a viral sensation after he joined Instagram in 2015 to show his portfolio to potential clients, with his age-defying photos showing his perfect skin and ripped muscular physique.
It was announced last year that Precious Is The Night was scheduled to be released in late 2020, but the date was pushed back amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Co-produced by Singapore-based mm2 Entertainment and Taiwan’s Pure Films, the movie is the feature film debut for the husband-and-wife team of Taiwanese director Wayne Peng – known for his work in commercials – and producer Lim Sau Hoong.
Here's the latest trailer for the film:
The drama, set in 1960s Singapore, revolves around a doctor who makes house calls to a mysterious wealthy family. The murder mystery is triggered by the death of a lady of the house.
Tan plays dual roles: a 35-year-old doctor and a writer. Mm2 said both characters look exactly the same although it was unclear why.
Tan reportedly has some steamy sex scenes in the movie, and one of the teasers released so far features his taut, shirtless torso.
The movie also features Singaporean stars Tay Ping Hui, Xiang Yun and her real-life daughter Chen Yixin, and Taiwanese actresses Nayeli and Chang Tzu-lei.
How will Chuando fare as an actor? We’ll find out soon enough.
