Palace: No classes in NCR, provinces, Aug. 9

(UPDATED, 11:45 P.M.)

Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. on Wednesday night issued Memorandum Circular No.34  suspending classes on Thursday, August 9,  in all levels in many parts of Luzon.

According to the Official Gazette, the circular suspends classes up to the post-graduate level in the National Capital Region and in the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal.

The provincial governments of Batangas, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga, and Pangasinan had earlier announced the suspension of classes as residents and rescuers struggled to help people stranded by floods caused by non-stop rains. Meanwhile, classes are suspended in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija.

Classes in Quezon City, Manila, Marikina, and Pasay are meanwhile suspended until Friday, authorities said.

Places under the state of calamity are the following: Caloocan, Manila, Malabon, Marikina, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan City; Bulacan, Bataan, Cavite, and Pampanga. The declaration allows the release of emergency funds especially for rescue and release operations. It also implements price controls on basic commodities.

From Official Gazette:
Government offices (except for emergency and relief operations): Malolos, Bulacan; Bocaue, Bulacan; Calumpit, Bulacan; San Mateo, Bulacan; Angeles City, Pampanga;
