City eyes condo-style building for Punta Princesa fire victims

THE Cebu City government is eyeing the construction of a condominium-style housing for residents in Barangay Punta Princesa who were displaced by the fire on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Punta Princesa village chief Jhun Andales said Tuesday, June 14, that they have already identified a vacant lot that will be bought by the city government for the proposed medium-rise building.

Andales also said that they have also endorsed that a state of calamity will be declared by the city council.

In the meantime, container vans will be installed in the 1,500 square-meter identified lot that will be used as temporary housing for the fire victims.

To recall, a total of 655 houses were either damaged or destroyed by the massive fire that affected five sitios in the barangay, displacing 850 families and 3,337 individuals.

The fire started in Sitio Tuburan at 5:53 p.m. on Saturday, before it spread to sitios Arca, Trinidad, Enriquez and Merco. (IRT)
