THE Cebu City Government is eyeing the construction of a condominium-style housing for residents in Barangay Punta Princesa who were displaced by the fire incident on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Barangay Punta Princesa chief Eleno “Jhun” Andales Jr. said Tuesday, June 14, that they have already identified a vacant lot that will be bought by the City Government for the proposed medium-rise building (MRB).

To recall, a total of 655 houses were either damaged or destroyed by the fire that affected five sitios in the barangay, displacing 850 families and 3,337 individuals.

Since the construction will take time, Andales said container vans will be installed in the area. These container vans will be used as temporary shelters for the fire victims.

According to the village chief, a constituent has offered to sell a 1,500-square-meter lot in Sitio Tuburan in the said barangay.

The proposed MRB will be offered to residents who will be affected by the reblocking of the site where the fire incident had taken place, said Andales.

Andales further said it is necessary to install temporary shelters because heads of the schools used as evacuation centers have only given the fire victims 30 days to stay inside the classrooms.
