City Government to barangays: Procure more garbage trucks

THE Cebu City Government has urged barangay officials to invest in the procurement of additional garbage trucks to address the delay in collecting household wastes from their constituents.

Lawyer John Jigo Dacua, head of the City's General Services Office, told SunStar Cebu on Monday, September 12, 2022, that the City Government has a limited number of vehicles that can assist the barangays in their garbage collection operations.

A concerned citizen from Barangay Guadalupe recently complained that their garbage has not been collected for many weeks already.

Guadalupe village chief Michael Gacasan admitted in an interview with SunStar Cebu last Sunday, September 11, that the barangay has been struggling to collect garbage since they do not have enough trucks to cater to around 30,000 households in their jurisdiction.

Gacasan said the barangay has already procured four additional trucks to complement their two existing vehicles. The first two new vehicles were already delivered and have been operational since last week.

According to Dacua, it is now time for barangays to invest in the procurement of vehicles that can improve their garbage collection system.

"We have been supporting Barangay Guadalupe and all other barangays with trucks. Ang problema lang is limited rapud atoang trucks sa city. Sa kadaghan manghuwam plus ato pang gigamit sa daily operations kani nga mga trucks, usahay dili gyud madala sa volume sa basura," said Dacua. (IRT)
