City Hall mulls filing criminal case vs person behind bomb threat

THE Cebu City Government is mulling on filing a criminal case against the person behind the multiple bomb threats received via text message Thursday, May 26, 2022.

Acting Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros said Friday, May 27, that personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP) have already presented their suggestions and recommendations to solve the incident that caused a disturbance in four different areas in the city.

Hontiveros added that filing a criminal complaint will serve as a lesson to these culprits and would further suppress other individuals from creating panic in the community.

Councilor Philip Zafra, chairman of the committee on peace and order, said that even if the threat was a hoax, the City Government is treating it seriously.

Zafra added that they will get to the bottom of the incident and pleaded to the PNP to uncover the identity of the person behind the bomb threats.

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) believed that only one person was behind the threat to bomb the Qimonda Building on North Reclamation Area where the Cebu City Hall of Justice is located, the Cebu City Legislative building, Carbon Market and the newly opened Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.

The threat caused the suspension of court sessions at Qimonda and work at City Hall.

The CCPO said it is now coordinating with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit to trace the person behind the threat. (IRT, BBT, TPT)
