EMPLOYEES at Cebu City Hall will have another reason to smile on Friday, Dec. 20 and it won’t be because it’s the start of the long Christmas weekend.
That’s because the employees will finally receive their P5,000 cash gift, P20,000 bonus and salary all on Friday. The development came after the Bureau of Local Government and Finance appointed Juanita Monina Paires as the acting City Treasurer from Dec. 11, 2019 to Dec. 10, 2020. She replaced Arlene Rentuza, whose contract expired on Dec. 11.
Though Cebu City has ample funds in its bank accounts, these couldn’t be released because there was no one from the City Treasurer’s Office who could sign, leading to the brief delay in the release of salaries.
The BLGF released Paires’ appoinment on Dec. 13 but this was received only on Dec. 16.
“If the payroll forms will be here in the office, the P5,000 cash gift, P20,000 bonus and their salaries will be released within the week. They will be released together, so it will really be a merry Christmas for them,” Paires said.
Last week, the City Council approved the bonus asked by Mayor Edgar Labella, including those for the job order employees.
On Wednesday, Dec. 18, the acting city treasurer met the Cebu City Council, led by Vice-Mayor Michael Rama, and told them that she will do everything in her power to improve the tax collection of the city.
Paires has been working at the CTO for 38 years and started as a laborer before getting a supervisory position as Local Revenue Officer 4. Under her new position, she is eligible for the Representation Allowance and Transportation Allowance. (PAC)
