Classes suspended due to bad weather

AT LEAST 38 local government units (LGUs) in Cebu Province suspended classes Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, due to bad weather.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said classes were suspended in Samboan, Alegria, Moalboal, Catmon, Malabuyoc, Minglanilla, Carmen, Dumanjug, Badian, Tabogon, Cordova, Pinamungajan, Ginatilan, Aloguinsan, Compostela, Barili, Sta. Fe, Santander, Boljoon, Bantayan, Madridejos, Ronda, Oslob, Tudela, Liloan, Oslob, Pilar, Balamban, Daanbantayan, Medellin, Tabuelan, Consolacion, Alcantara, Mandaue City, Carcar City, Danao City, Talisay City and Lapu-Lapu City.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in Mactan said earlier that heavy rains will be experienced in Cebu due to the low pressure area (LPA), which was spotted 380 kilometers east of Surigao City in Surigao del Norte as of 6 a.m. Thursday.

Pagasa-Mactan said the shear line is also affecting the Visayas and southern Luzon.

It added, though, that the LPA is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone. (LMY)
