ALCANTARA—Jumike Casera sank a difficult short jumper with 0.3 of a second left to push the Tubigon Bohol Mariners past the Dumaguete Warriors, 62-61, in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup on Wednesday afternoon at the Alcantara Civic Center in Alcantara, Cebu.
Down one with just nine seconds remaining in the close game, Bohol gave the ball to their moneyman, Joseph Marquez, for an isolation play on the left wing. The left-handed wingman, though, got blocked by Dumaguete big man Jovannie Aguilar.
However, Casera found himself at the right place at the right time as he grabbed the offensive rebound and went right up for a short jumper that found nothing but the bottom of the net with just 0.3 of a second remaining.
The Warriors had one last shot but Mannie Gabas’ jumper went awry as time expired, to give Bohol just their second win in nine matches. Dumaguete, on the other hand, lost their fifth in a row and are now at the bottom of the standings with a 1-7 (win-loss) card.
Veteran forward Pari Llagas continued to be Bohol’s rock in the shaded lane as he tallied 21 points, 14 rebounds, two assists and three blocks. Marquez, who is hobbled by several injuries, still put up 18 points, 12 boards, two dimes and three steals.
Casera finished with seven points and seven boards.
Jaybie Mantilla had a double-double for Dumaguete with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Mark Doligon added 15 points—on 5-of-21 shooting—and 10 rebounds. James Regalado chipped in 12 markers, four boards, seven assists and two steals.
