The Atlanta Police Department released footage on October 20 showing an incident earlier in the month in which one of its officers was struck from behind by a vehicle while working a road accident on Interstate 75.“Officer Steven Randerson, a nine-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department, was investigating a traffic accident on I-75 NB near 17th St NW.,” police said.The vehicles involved in the accident had been moved to the shoulder and Randerson had positioned his vehicle behind them to act as a warning to other, oncoming vehicles.While Randerson was faced away from oncoming traffic, an approaching vehicle lost control and struck him.“Randerson was seriously injured in the collision and remains off-duty during recovery,” police said. “The driver who rammed into Randerson was cited for going too fast for conditions.” Credit: Atlanta Police Department via Storyful
The City of Atlanta Police Department posted footage on October 20 of an incident earlier this year in which a driver plowed into a police vehicle, injuring an officer who was conducting a traffic stop.“APD Officer Duc Vo was dispatched to a call regarding an inoperable vehicle on Interstate 20 near the Joseph E Lowery Blvd exit,” police said, when a vehicle drove into his patrol car, “causing severe damage to the vehicle and serious injuries to Vo.”Vo was taken to hospital and was later nominated for a Purple Heart award, police said.The driver of the vehicle that drove into Vo’s vehicle was allegedly drunk, and identified as Annette M Stewart. “She was arrested and charged with DUI, Alcohol Less Safe and Reckless Driving and was transported to Atlanta City Jail,” police said. Thousands of supporters of a banned radical Islamist party Saturday departed the eastern Pakistan city of Lahore, clashing for a second straight day with police who lobbed tear gas into the crowd, a party spokesman and witnesses said. The group began their journey Friday with the goal of reaching the capital Islamabad to pressure the government to release Saad Rizvi, the head of the Tehreek-e-Labiak Pakistan party. Rizvi was arrested last year amid demonstrations against France over the publication of caricatures of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.
