Collapsed footbridge in Talisay now usable

THE footbridge that connects Barangays Lagtang and Lawaan 3 in Talisay City can now be used after undergoing repair.

The more than one decade Lagtang-Lawaan 3 footbridge, which had a height of 10 feet, collapsed on a rainy Sunday afternoon, July 17, 2022 allegedly due to its old age.

At least two children fell when the bridge collapsed after one of its cables snapped.

The children were later rescued.

Lawaan 3 Barangay Captain Frederick ‘Reggie’ Marababol said that the 12-year-old granddaughter of their barangay health worker from Sitio Cadicay, Lawaan 3 and a boy from Lagtang were watching the rushing floodwaters under the bridge when the incident took place.

Mayor Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas said in an interview with the media on Friday morning, August 26, that the footbridge is already done but still needs to be repainted.

"Actually two days ago gi-open na gyud siya ug maagian na," Gullas said.

(Actually it was opened two days ago and this can already be used).

The mayor said that through the said spanning structure residents no longer have to go to the national highway in going to Lagtang or Lawaan 3 or vice versa.

Gullas urged the parents to watch or accompany their children when crossing the bridge to avoid the incident from happening again. (BBT, TPT)
