Colon night market to open every day starting November

THE Colon Street Night Market will be held every day starting this month, an official said Monday, Nov. 7, 2022.

Maria Pino, chairman of Garbo Asenso Sumbanan Alyansa (Gasa) of Cebu City, a group of sidewalk vendors, said once opened this week or next week, the Colon Night Market will operate every day until Dec. 30.

“Karong November, wa pa lang ko nagbutang og date but it is already approved nga mabalik na this month of November. Gi-finalize lang nato ang ubang mga documents kay duna manay panginahanglan aron mapadayon ang night market,” she said.

(I haven’t identified a date yet, but it’s going to be this November. We are just finalizing the documents needed for us to continue the night market.)

The night market was opened in September, but it was ordered stopped by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama on Oct. 2 as he wants it improved. It was operating every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight.

Pino said that this time, the operation will be every day, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

A portion of Colon Street, particularly from corner Osmeña Boulevard to corner Mabini Street, will be closed to traffic.

Pino said the night market will feature around 500 vendors who will offer dry goods and food products, such as “larang (spicy and sour fish stew),” adobo and barbecue, among others. (PAC / LMY)
